DEED and SSPC Host First Annual Training for School-Based Suicide Prevention Grantees

The Department of Education and Early Development and the Statewide Suicide Prevention Council hosted the first annual training workshop for Suicide Awareness, Prevention, and Postvention Grant recipients.

Teams from the Northwest Arctic School District, Mat-Su School District, Petersburg School District, Haines School District, and Anchorage School District came together September 23-24, 2013 to discuss grant expectations, refine their three-year action plans for implementing evidence based suicide prevention in their schools, and learn about resources to support their activities.

Most grantee school districts are focusing on serving alternative school students and at-risk students s in their grant activities. Several are partnering with local mental health providers to ensure students have access to counseling and services when needed.

The North Slope School District has also received a Suicide Awareness, Prevention, and Postvention Grant. Their team was attended a districtwide training in Barrow.
